This gilt bronze Calendar Frame was produced as part of Tiffany Studios’ Abalone Desk Set, one of the company’s most popular patterns. The Abalone Set was introduced by Tiffany Studios around 1906 and remained in production for several decades, a strong indication of enduring desirability of this design.
The horizontally oriented window of this easel-backed Calendar Frame is decorated with a motif of stylized grape clusters, the lower portion of the frame featuring three larger bunches of seven “grapes” formed by an inset discs of iridescent abalone in shifting tones of silvery purple and green, with two smaller clusters of three “grapes” each located at the upper corners, all backed by a stylized grape leaf. These shimmering grapes are surrounded by a motif of linear channels with coiling accents representing creeping grapevines, in this example filled with deep green enamel.
This fine example of original Tiffany Studios metalwork is stamped on the reverse with firm’s marks and model number.
