This Match Safe and Stand was designed as part of the Art Moderne Desk Set produced by Louis C. Tiffany Furnaces Inc. in the early 1920s; today the Desk Set is more commonly referred to by Tiffany collectors as the “Art Deco” Desk Set.
The bronze Match Safe rests on a shallow square stand which functions as an ash tray. The edges of this “well” feature a border of rectilinear recesses filled with variegated green enamel, with yellow discs at the corners. From the center, a thin post rises to support a match holder with additional enamel decoration and striker built in.
This piece of original Tiffany metalwork is stamped with firm’s marks and model number.
