Louis C. Tiffany Furnaces, Inc., one of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s companies working out of his Corona factory, first produced the Art Moderne Desk Set around 1920. The set, which was retailed by Tiffany Studios, was designed with a “modern” style of decoration in keeping with the changing tastes of the Art Deco period. As such, over time this desk set has come to be known by Tiffany collectors as the “Art Deco” Desk Set.
Resting on four flattened ball feet, this gilt bronze Desk Clock features the set's understated rectilinear decoration on the flat angled front, surrounding a circular clock face. The narrow grooves around the border and recesses were filled with vitreous enamel in variegated shades of deep blue, accented by speckles of pale pink and red at the midpoints, with circular discs of yellow at the corners.
This example of original Tiffany Metalwork is stamped with firm’s mark and model number.
