This rare gilt bronze Paper Clip is part of the "Art Deco" or "Art Moderne" Desk Set produced by Louis C. Tiffany Furnaces, Inc. in the 1920s. The set was retailed by Tiffany Studios and was intended to appeal to a more “modern” style of decoration in keeping with the changing tastes of the Art Deco period. As such, over time this desk set has come to be known by Tiffany collectors as the “Art Deco” Desk Set.
This rare Paper Clip is still fully functional. The surface features the rectilinear surface decoration of this set in the rare blue enamel colorway: the recesses feature inset enamel in variegated shades of blue, while a thin groove and small circles and the corners filled with a complementary gold enamel.
