This extremely rare gilt bronze humidor was produced as part of the Bookmark Desk Set by Tiffany Studios in the early 20th century. The Bookmark set was one of the more elaborately detailed sets produced by Tiffany Studios, and thus one of the most expensive to produce and retail. Each piece in the set features heavily modeled bronze motifs inspired by 15th and 16th century printer’s marks.
In exceptional condition, this hinged cigar box retains its original gold patina and cold painted enamel detailing, as well as the inset cedar liner.
The flat lid and all four sides of the box feature a series of decorative panels in high relief depicting a series of pictorial devices including representations of plants and trees enhanced with hand painted enamel detailing in shades of red, green, blue and yellow, alternating with low relief panels depicting monograms and typographic symbols.
This exceptional example of original Tiffany Studios metalwork is stamped with firm’s marks and model number.
