This Cigar Lighter is a rare piece from Tiffany Studios' Byzantine Desk Set. The three-dimensional gilded surface of Tiffany’s interpretation is marked by raised bronze and glass beads and inset pieces of Tiffany favrile glass in a deep coral red.
The Byzantine desk set, which may have been inspired by decorative objects from the Byzantine Empire, was manufactured between 1906 and 1914; it was one of the more expensive desk sets sold by Tiffany Studios at the time. The 1909 Tiffany Blue Book stated that “Rosary Pearls” could be added in lieu of glass beads to make your set extra special - for a minor price increase.
