The dragonfly was a major source of inspiration for Louis Comfort Tiffany, Clara Driscoll, and the designers at Tiffany Studios - the insect appears in an iconic series of Tiffany Lamps designed by Driscoll at the turn of the twentieth century, in addition to a rare designs for jewelry and favrile glass mosaics.
In this fine example of the 16-inch Dragonfly shade, a series of pale blue dragonflies, their wings formed by marbled purple and mauve glass mounted with delicate filigree, hover above a background of glass in a pale green. The eyes of the dragonflies are formed by rounded Tiffany Glass jewels in bright shade of red.
The spectacular shade is paired with a Torpedo Table Base in rich brown patina. Both the shade and base of this original Tiffany Lamp are signed.
