This early Favrile Glass bowl dates to the late 1890s, when the glassblowers employed by Louis Comfort Tiffany at his complex in Corona, Queens were perfecting the chemical formulas and decorative techniques for which Tiffany Glass would earn world renown.
This low, wide mouthed bowl rests on a small rounded foot. The piece is formed by glass of deep purple coloration, a color not commonly seen in Tiffany’s blown glass. The interior and exterior both feature bright surface iridescence, while the exterior surface is decorated with a horizontal band of pulled swag motif in a contrasting bright striated gold glass. The lower portion of the bowl exhibits a raised pattern of quilted motif, offering additional interest to the vase in the play of texture with the color and iridescence on the surface.
This rare piece of original Tiffany Favrile Glass is inscribed on the underside with signature and date code.
