This exceptional and early example of a Tiffany Dragonfly Table Lamp depicts a series of salmon pink dragonflies with red eyes, their pale variegated wings mounted with pierced metal filigree representing the membraneous wings, floating above a background of early Tiffany "Ripple" Glass in shades of blue and green. The background glass, representing a pool of water, is streaked throughout with clear, white, and green, transitioning to deeper blue tones near the lower edge of the shade.
Pressed ovoid glass jewels are interspersed throughout the background of the shade, ranging from green near the crown of the shade to a deep blue tone above the dragonflies.
This Dragonfly shade is paired with a bronze Decorated Cushion Table Base in a rich brown patina.
The dragonfly repeatedly served as a source of inspiration for Louis Comfort Tiffany and the artists at Tiffany Studios; the insect, with its finely detailed wings, appeared in designs for jewelry, Favrile Glass mosaics, and, most famously, the iconic series of Tiffany Lamps first designed by Clara Driscoll in the late 1890s.
