A bottle form vase with elongated neck in the Graal technique, designed by artist Simon Gate for Swedish glass company Orrefors. Gate was the first artist hired by Orrefors and directed much of the artistic style in the early years of production.
This early example of the type features internal glass which shifts in tone from clear to transparent smoky purple. The bulbous lower portion features encased decoration of flowers and leaves in a yellow-orange glass.
This vase is signed and dated on the underside and is inscribed with the initials of four artists in total, including "S.G." for Simon Gate, "H.W." for glass decorator Heinrich Wollmann and "K.B." for Knut Bergqvist, the inventor of the Graal technique and a master glassblower who played a crucial role at Orrefors.
