This Favrile Glass Vase is an exceptional example of the Paperweight technique developed by the glassworkers working at Louis Comfort Tiffany's glassblowing complex.
Cased within a layer of clear glass, a series of pulled decorative motifs in striated shades of purple, pale blue and deep green with hints of creamy white, decorate the entire surface of the vase. From the rim and the foot, elongated swags are pulled towards a central decorative band formed by pointed ovals.
The upper half of the interior of the vase was fumed, presenting as shimmering golden iridescence in reflected light. The lower portion of the vase below the central band of decoration remains comparatively transparent.
This rare and unusual example of original blown Tiffany Favrile Glass is inscribed on the underside with signature and date code, and retains its original Tiffany Glass & Decorating Company paper label.
