Tiffany Studios earned worldwide renown for the lustrous finish of the iridescent Favrile Glass produced by the company in the late 1890s.
This vase, of waisted classical form with rounded foot and stepped rim, is comprised of soft blue glass with silvery surface iridescence marked by hints of rainbow coloration where the finish has pooled. A narrow horizontal band of applied decoration punctuates the midpoint of the vase, adding visual interest to the otherwise simple form.
Both the style of the decoration as well as the method of application may have been adaptations of the technically complex applied decoration seen in the company's "diatreta" style vases introduced around 1907-10, just before this vase was produced.
This example of original Tiffany Favrile Glass is inscribed on the underside with signature and date code.
