This rare and unusually large Tiffany Glass Roundel is formed by the gold iridescent Favrile Glass for which Louis Comfort Tiffany and Tiffany Studios would earn lasting fame.
This example features bright all-over surface iridescence in a silvery gold tone. The burst pontil is visible at the center, while the outer edges feature “onion skin” texture. This piece features a three-armed metal mount which allows it to be hung on a wall.
Roundels of this scale were a technical feat and this example is a testament to the skill of the glassworkers employed at Louis Comfort Tiffany’s facilities in Corona, Queens.
