The Root Candlestick was one of Tiffany Studios’ most popular candlestick designs and remains a favorite of modern Tiffany collectors.
A thin stem rises from a stylized naturalistic base with three feet in the manner of branching roots. The rounded candle cup features a band of inset pressed Tiffany favrile glass “Turtle Back” jewels in deep blue-green glass with vivid rainbow surface iridescence.
The candlestick, in the original rich brown patina, is paired with a blown Tiffany favrile glass “Tulip” shade with slightly scalloped rim, formed by opalescent creamy white glass with soft surface iridescence. The shade is decorated with a pulled, pointed feather motif rising from the base of the shade in striated green bordered at the top edge by a thin band of gold with silvery-blue iridescence. The shade fits into a stepped bobeche and is securely held in place by three bronze screws with spherical heads in matching patina.
The candlestick is stamped with firm’s marks and model number, while the shade features an inscribed signature.
