The "Ninth Century" Desk Set produced by Tiffany Studios around 1920 was one of the more elaborate desk sets produced under the auspicecs of Tiffany's design empire.
This pattern is characterized by references to Medieval decorative arts; each piece in the set features patterns of intricate knotwork and interlace designs in the Celtic style, many of which frame stylized animals including various birds and a hare.
The Ninth Century set is one of the few Tiffany desk sets which features Tiffany Favrile Glass as an important decorative element used to imitate a semiprecious jewel or stone.
In this horizontal calendar frame, the gilt bronze surface is accented by the rich blue tones of the Tiffany glass "jewels."
It features an easel back and is impressed with firm's mark and model number.
