The Ninth Century Desk Set was one of the most elaborately decorated of the popular bronze Desk Sets produced by Tiffany Studios. Surviving sales brochures and booklets produced by Tiffany in the period described the Ninth Century set as inspired by the Decorative Arts from the 9th century, including charming stylized grotesque creatures. ntricate knotwork and interlace designs feature heavily in each piece of the set, described by Tiffany Studios as “carved ornament” and “deeply cut strapwork.”
The Ninth Century Desk Set is one of the few Tiffany desk sets which features Tiffany Favrile Glass as an important decorative element used to imitate a semi-precious jewel or stone.
This rare vertical picture frame with original bright gold patina features thin gilt bronze borders decorated with an interlace design, with inset Tiffany Favrile Glass cabochons in bright clear shades of blue and green at the corners and at regular intervals along the inner border of the frame.
This rare Tiffany Studios picture frame with easel back is stamped with the model number and firm’s marks.
