This unusually large Favrile Glass inkwell dates from the late 1890s, a period during which the production of blown glass was being perfected by the glassblowers and chemists in Louis Comfort Tiffany’s employ.
The body of the inkwell is formed by opaque iridescent blue glass featuring a pulled feather motif at the shoulder and a band of pulled and hooked motif near the base, with both decorative elements formed by brighter blue glass framed by thin borders of iridescent gold. The overall surface of the glass is characterized by brilliant iridescence shifting through silvery purple and blue tones.
This inkwell is mounted with a patinated bronze collar with hinged lid featuring the original chased monogram at the center.
This rare Tiffany Favrile Glass inkwell is inscribed on the underside with signature and date code.
