This original Tiffany Lamp features a rare leaded glass Bell Flower Shade, an early design that was likely produced for a short period after it was introduced around 1900.
The upper half of the domed shade features stylized scrolling foliate motifs articulated in striated yellow-green glass, below which hang a series of variegated pink bell flowers in symmetrical arrangements of paired blossoms. The flowers are articulated in variegated deep pink glass with subtle mottling; the larger flowers along the lower edge of the shade feature centers formed by more transparent darker pink glass. Mottled opalescent grassy green Tiffany glass forms the majority of the background; the green coloration of this glass is more deeply saturated near the crown of the shade, subtly transitioning to a paler green with soft white accents near the lower edge of the shade, contrasting with the pink flowers. A decorative border row at the top of the shade is formed by deeply saturated green glass which shifts through orange and back to green.
This rare early shade is paired with an original bronze Library Standard Cushion base in rich brown patina, the footed "cushion” decorated with a regular raised motif referred to in the original Tiffany Studios price lists as “Hammered.”
Both the shade and base of this authentic Tiffany lamp are signed.
