A popular motif of the Art Nouveau and Aesthetic movements, the jewel-toned peacock feather was frequently translated into glass by Louis Comfort Tiffany.
This is an early example of the rare Peacock Table Lamp produced by Tiffany Studios in the early 20th century. It is one of the few Tiffany Lamps which the company designed to sell as a paired shade and base; both components incorporate coordinated Tiffany glass, resulting in a harmonized design.
The 18-inch diameter Peacock shade depicts an all-over motif of abstracted peacock feathers articulated in richly colored variegated streaky glass in jewel tones ranging from deep purple and blue near the crown to teal, amber and green near the lower edge. The cobalt blue eyes of the feathers stand out amidst this vibrant swirl.
The bronze Peacock Table Base continues the motif in a pattern of delicately chased feathers which adorn the body, in addition to a series of applied bronze feathers which flow down the base to the foot where they are adorned with inset Tiffany Favrile Glass in matching jewel tones.
This authentic Tiffany lamp has an original bronze reticulated heat cap in matching patina. Both the shade and the base are signed.
