Around 1950, Vladimir Kagan introduced this settee (Model 100B) as part of a larger series based on his Barrel chair, designed for the inaugural Kagan-Dreyfuss catalogue in 1947. Initially referred to as the “Sculpture Form” series, this line of furniture became one of Kagan’s most popular and was later renamed “Barrel” to more accurately reflect the iconic shape.
This example is upholstered in a woven fabric in gray and white tones with hints of orange throughout, defined by thick gray piping, with wooden legs.
Vladimir Kagan is widely regarded as one of the defining figures of American Mid-Century Modern design. He wad inducted into the Interior Designer Hall of Fame in 2009.
