This bronze statuette is the first version of The Vine created by Harriet Frishmuth in 1921.
The sculpture was enormously popular and was cast in an edition of 396. In 1923, Frishmuth enlarged the sculpture to monumental scale.
The larger example from 1923 can be found in the sculpture court in American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
This example is signed with artist's name and the Gorham foundry mark.
