Designed by Joel Smith, this Menorah for Chanukah, The Festival of Lights, takes its inspiration from the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem.
The low, curved bronze base of this Hanukkiah features nine inset candle cups; the central candle cup intended for the shamash is slightly elevated. Behind the candle cups, the bronze base features a recess which holds a separate rectangular block of crystal with frosted edges and finely engraved decoration by artist Sue Koval representing the monumental limestone ashlars of the ancient sctructure.
When the candles are lit each night, the candlelight shimmers against the crystal surface and highlights the patterning on the "wall."
This rare piece of Steuben was first introduced by the company in 1995 and had a limited production run.
