Boats in Window

Height: 21 1/4 inches (54 cm)
Width: 17 1/4 inches (44 cm)
Framed
Over a span of fifty years American artist Charles E. Martin (1910-1995) created nearly two hundred designs which went on to become covers for the New Yorker magazine. Martin would create a rough cartoon and consult with the magazine's art directors Jim Geherty and Lee Lorenz. After making the necessary adjustments, Martin produced this finished piece, titled Boats in Window in pencil on paper, which appears on the cover of the July 23, 1973 issue.
