This Favrile Glass Cabinet Vase is an early example of the glass produced by glassblowers working under the direction of Louis Comfort Tiffany and Arthur Nash at the very end of the 19th century. During this early period of Tiffany’s glass production, the blown glass was characterized by unusual colors and textural effects as the artists worked to perfect their techniques and chemical formulas.
This Cabinet Vase is an early version of the gold iridescent Favrile Glass for which Tiffany Studios is still beloved today. The vase features an all-over swirling vine decoration in a deeper amber color than the base glass used for the vase, with pointed green leaves scattered across the surface. The vase features overall silvery surface iridescence.
This early example of original Tiffany Favrile Glass is inscribed on the underside with signature and date code.
