Louis Comfort Tiffany returned to the plumage of the peacock as a source of inspiration throughout his career, interpreting the feathers of the bird in diverse media ranging from jewelry and enamel to both blown and leaded glass.
This rare vase is part of an early and limited series of vessels dating from the late 1890s in which an abstracted peacock feather motif decorates the entire surface of the vase. The waisted vessel is formed by translucent pale green glass. A series of striated pulled feathers in silvery glass with pastel rainbow iridescence rise from the base to the rim. The eyes of the feathers are formed by brilliant iridescent glass in deeper tones of blue and green.
This rare example of original early Tiffany glass is inscribed on the underside with date code.
