In addition to the more complex floral leaded glass shades, Tiffany Studios produced a line of geometric shades to appeal to customers who wanted a Tiffany Lamp with a more restrained pattern or motif.
While today this shade is commonly referred to as the “Acorn" shade, the model number was listed as “Vine Border, Plain Squares, Dome” in Tiffany Studios’ 1906 price list. The "Vine Border" motif was adapted to leaded glass shades for Tiffany Lamps in a variety of sizes and shapes, ranging from 14 to 24 inches in diameter.
In this example, a domed shade is formed by a grid of rectangular pieces of Tiffany glass in a blue-green color with heavy mottling, with more opaque glass located near the crown of the shade. This background is bisected near the lower rim by a horizontal frieze of meandering leaves in alternating positions, articulated in mottled Tiffany glass in a contrasting shade of yellow.
The shade is paired with a bronze “Root" table base in a rich brown patina.
Both the shade and base of this original Tiffany lamp are signed.
